Hello, I'm Mel Menai Honey Company.
I’m a beekeeper and engineer based near Bangor, North Wales. I’ve been keeping bees for nearly a decade, focusing on sustainable, treatment-free methods using near-native Apis mellifera mellifera (Amm) bees. My beekeeping started with stock from members of the Lleyn & Eifionydd Beekeeping Association, who have bred treatment-free bees for over 15 years. Since then, I’ve put years into carefully selecting and grafting queens for calm temperament, high honey yields, disease resistance, and low swarming. I never use synthetic varroa treatments or antibiotics, and I avoid breeding from hives showing signs of deformed wing virus. I believe in gentle handling (I usually inspect with just a veil) and I rear my own queens from the best-performing colonies—not swarm cells. My bees are bred to thrive in the local climate and produce delicious, raw honey straight from the wildflowers, hedgerows and hills of North Wales. Whether you’re looking for resilient nucleus colonies or truly raw, chemical-free honey, my focus is on healthy bees, quality breeding, and ethical beekeeping.
